Mike Pompeo says US, Poland confirm stance against Nord Stream-2

WARSAW, Feb 13 (PRIME) -- The U.S. and Poland have confirmed their joint stance against Russia’s Nord Stream-2 natural gas pipeline, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said late on Tuesday in a news conference following his meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz.

“Poland has vigorously pursued a course to reduce its dependence on Russian natural gas…We continue to work with Poland and other likeminded European allies and partners to stop Russia’s proposed Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which would undermine European energy and national security while also hurting Ukraine.,” he said.

Czaputowicz also said that Poland thinks that the Nord Stream-2 “does not contribute to energy security of Europe.”

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Gazprom will implement the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, OMV, and France’s Engie.
